Biography

Frank Jenko obtained his Ph.D. in physics from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 1998. After a postdoc at College Park, Maryland and Princeton, New Jersey, he became the leader of an independent research group hosted at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics (IPP) at Garching, supported first by a Helmholtz Young Investigators Award and then by a Starting Grant from the European Research Council. Between 2007 and 2014, he was an Adjunct Professor at the University of Ulm. From 2014 to 2017, he was a Full Professor at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Since 2017, he serves as a Director at the IPP. In addition, he is a Professor at the TUM and an Adjunct Professor at The University of Texas at Austin.

Research topics

My research interests center around the physics of ionized gases (plasmas) with applications in fusion energy and astrophysics, employing a wide range of techniques from High Performance Computing and Artificial Intelligence. Beyond that, I am generally interested in the study of complex systems in the laboratory and in nature. In addition, I have been engaged in the dialogue between science and faith in various contexts for many years.
