Dr. Mallampalli is a scholar of modern South Asia, British Empire and World Christianity. His four books and many articles are about the role of religion - Christianity especially, but also Islam and Hinduism - in shaping identities and influencing public policies and national life. He taght world history and British Empire at a private liberal arts college for twenty plus years, developing a broad, comparative and transnational approach to education and historical scholarship. In 2021-22, he was a Yang Visiting Scholar of World Christianity at Harvard Divinity School, where he taught two courses on Asian and Global Christianity. He is currently a senior research scholar at Boston College's Clough Center for the Study of Constitutional Democracy, where he co-facilitates a seminar and leads a graduate workshop on "Envisioning Democratic Futures", edits an annual journal, and explores challenges facing democracy in the U.S., India, and globally.
